Question 1

What is a gemstone layout?

Accepted Answer

A layout is a group of loose stones matched for colour, cut and size so they can be set together in one piece, such as a line bracelet, riviera necklace, eternity band or suite. It is sold as one lot, described by the number of pieces, the size range and the total weight.

Question 2

What is the difference between a calibrated and a graduated layout?

Accepted Answer

In a calibrated layout every stone is cut to the same size, which suits line bracelets and eternity bands. In a graduated layout the stones change size along the row, usually growing towards the centre, which suits necklaces and some bracelets.

Question 3

Are the stones in a layout heated?

Accepted Answer

It depends on the layout. Many sapphire and ruby layouts are heated, which is accepted in the trade when disclosed. The treatment is stated for each layout, and unheated layouts are rarer and priced higher.

Question 4

Can I ask for a layout in another size or colour?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Many layouts in our vault are not shown on the website. Tell us the stone, colour, shape, sizes and number of pieces you need on WhatsApp or by email, and we will check what we have.
