Gemstone and Coloured Diamond Dealer in Toronto
Byrex Gems is a gemstone and coloured diamond dealer in Toronto, founded in 1988 and based at 27 Queen Street East, Suite 407, near Yonge Street. The house holds coloured gemstones and natural fancy colour diamonds, many with GIA, GRS, SSEF, Gübelin or other laboratory reports, and sells to jewellers, designers, dealers and collectors across Canada and abroad. Every stone is filmed in the office, unedited. Approved trade buyers sign in for prices; private clients are received by appointment.
What does Byrex Gems hold in Toronto?
Byrex holds two things: coloured gemstones and natural fancy colour diamonds. On the coloured side that means sapphires in blue, pink, teal, padparadscha and other colours, rubies, emeralds, spinels and a range of other species, as single stones, matched pairs, close matches, three-piece sets and layouts. On the diamond side it means natural fancy colour diamonds in pink, yellow, blue, green and other hues, most with GIA reports.
Many stones carry a report from GIA, GRS, SSEF, Gübelin or another laboratory, and the report is shown with the stone. Treatment is stated as the laboratory states it, so heated and unheated sapphires are marked as such, and origin opinions are given where a laboratory has offered one.
Every stone is filmed in the office, unedited, and the video is on its stone page. What is online is not everything. Part of the collection is kept off the site, and what Byrex does not hold it can usually source through its offices worldwide, so a buyer looking for something specific should ask.
Who buys from Byrex?
Retail jewellers, bench jewellers, independent and custom designers, and other dealers make up most of Byrex's customers. More than seven thousand trade customers have bought from the house over the years, in Toronto, across Canada and abroad. Collectors and private buyers come by appointment and see the same stones.
A jeweller might come for a single centre stone to a customer's brief, a matched pair for earrings, or a layout for a bracelet. A designer might come to choose a stone before drawing the piece. A dealer might come for a stone a client overseas has asked for. Each is served the same way: the stone, its report, and a straight answer about it.
Byrex Gems is a member of the American Gem Trade Association and the Canadian Jewellers Association. Both bodies hold their members to a code of ethics on disclosure and description, which is also why the stones are filmed unedited and the laboratory report is shown rather than paraphrased.
How does the trade buy from Byrex?
A trade buyer applies for a trade account on byrex.com. Once approved, the buyer signs in with a one-time code sent to their email; there is no password. Signed in, the buyer sees trade prices on every stone and can keep selections of stones to show their own clients.
Buying is a conversation rather than a checkout. The buyer asks about a stone by WhatsApp or email, or comes to Suite 407 to see it; Byrex confirms availability, answers questions about the stone and its report, and agrees terms in writing. The stone then travels insured, within Canada or worldwide.
Trade buyers who travel can also see Byrex's stones at viewings arranged in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Dubai. Buyers with a specific request, a colour or a size or a pair that is not on the site, can send a brief, and Byrex will look through what it holds and what its offices worldwide can source.
Can private clients buy in Toronto?
Yes, by appointment. Byrex is a wholesale house, and Suite 407 is a private office rather than a retail showroom, but collectors and private buyers are received there and see the same stones the trade sees. Prices are not published and are discussed in person.
A private client usually comes for a stone they will have set elsewhere, by a jeweller or designer of their own. Byrex works alongside that jeweller, sharing measurements, the report and the unedited video. Clients without a jeweller can have a piece designed and made by Byrex around the stone, with a CAD render to approve before anything is cast.
The private clients page explains what a viewing is like and how to prepare. The short version: write on WhatsApp or by email, say what you are looking for, and a weekday appointment will be arranged at 27 Queen Street East, Suite 407.
How do buyers outside Toronto work with Byrex?
Most of Byrex's customers are not in Toronto. Jewellers across Canada, from Vancouver to Halifax, and buyers in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia work with the house without visiting. The unedited video on each stone page is the first step, a video call with the stone in hand is the second, and insured shipping worldwide is the third.
Viewings are also arranged in Hong Kong, Bangkok and Dubai, so a buyer in those regions can see stones in person without flying to Canada. Stones that are not on the site can be sourced through Byrex's offices worldwide to a buyer's brief.
For those who do come, the office is at 27 Queen Street East, Suite 407, Toronto, Ontario, in the downtown core near Yonge Street and Queen subway station. Visits are by appointment on weekdays. Reach Byrex on WhatsApp at +1 (437) 450-3786 or by email at info@byrex.com.
Gemstone and Coloured Diamond Dealer in Toronto: questions buyers ask
Where is Byrex Gems located in Toronto?
Byrex Gems is at 27 Queen Street East, Suite 407, Toronto, Ontario, in the downtown core near Yonge Street. It is a private office on an upper floor, visited by appointment, rather than a street-level shop.
What are your opening hours?
Byrex receives visitors by appointment on weekdays. There are no drop-in hours, because the office is private and stones are brought out for the person who has booked. Write on WhatsApp or by email to arrange a time that suits you.
Is there parking or transit nearby?
The office is in downtown Toronto, a short walk from Queen subway station on Yonge Street, with the usual downtown parking around it. Byrex will confirm the easiest way in when the appointment is arranged.
Do you sell loose gemstones to the public?
Yes, by appointment. Byrex is a wholesaler, and most stones go to the trade, but private clients and collectors are received at Suite 407 and can buy loose stones with their laboratory reports. Prices are discussed in person rather than published.
Do you have a showroom?
Not in the retail sense. Byrex works from a private office at 27 Queen Street East, Suite 407, where stones are shown by appointment to trade buyers and private clients. There is no window, no counter and no walk-in service.
Are your prices listed online?
Trade prices are shown to approved trade buyers who sign in to byrex.com with a one-time emailed code. They are not visible to the public. Private clients discuss prices in person or by enquiry about a specific stone.
Do you sell to jewellers across Canada?
Yes. Jewellers and designers across Canada buy from Byrex without visiting Toronto: they view the unedited video, ask for a video call if they wish, agree terms in writing and receive the stone insured. Trade accounts are open to the Canadian trade and to buyers abroad.
Can I get a stone appraised at Byrex?
Byrex does not appraise stones bought elsewhere. Stones sold by Byrex come with their laboratory reports, and for an insurance valuation Byrex can refer you to an independent appraiser. The report describes the stone; the appraiser puts a replacement value on it.
